Deals move when the buyer can see proof without taking a big risk. That’s what a 4-week pilot gives you: a small, safe test that shows you deliver on time and to spec.

I love pilots because they stop the endless talk. They say, ā€œLet’s just try it, small and clear.ā€

Buyers breathe out. You stop guessing. And 4 weeks later, you’ve got something you can point to.

 

Why 4 Weeks (Not 2, Not 6)

  • 2 weeks: often too short to show real impact.
  • 4 weeks: sweet spot — enough cycles to prove, still easy to approve.
  • 6 weeks: starts to feel like a project; approvals can drag.

In our Nigeria Solo Vendor Readiness Index (NSVRI) study, we watched how pilots move. The pattern is steady: 4 weeks keeps momentum and gets decisions faster.

 

The ā€œDoneā€ Rule (Name It in One Line)

This is the backbone: date + to-spec in plain words.

  • Delivery/Output: ā€œOn the agreed date and matches the approved checklist/spec.ā€
  • Service Visit: ā€œAll visits done on schedule and passed the checklist ticks.ā€

You put this line in your offer, your pilot plan, and your result page. Over and over. That consistency builds trust.

 

Pilot Template #1 — Delivery/Output Trial (Supplier-friendly)

Goal: deliver one small batch on date and to spec.
Plan:

  • Week 1: Agree item + spec (photo/color/sample if needed).
  • Week 2: Prep + confirm delivery date and location.
  • Week 3: Deliver + get receiver name and time.
  • Week 4: One-page result (date match? spec match? next order Y/N).

ā€œDoneā€ means: delivered on the agreed date, matches the spec, receiver signed.

Next step line: ā€œShall we continue next month with [quantity] on the same terms?ā€

 

Pilot Template #2 — Service Visit Trial (Service-friendly)

Goal: complete visits on schedule and pass the checklist.
Plan:

  • Week 1: Agree checklist (what ā€œpassā€ looks like).
  • Week 2: Prep tools/teams, confirm visit schedule.
  • Week 3: Run visits; tick pass/fail; write short notes.
  • Week 4: One-page result with pass rate + quick wins.

ā€œDoneā€ means: visits done per schedule and pass checklist.

Next step line: ā€œContinue next month with the same checklist and visit rhythm?ā€

 

The One-page Result (Don’t Overthink It)

Four parts. One page. That’s it.

  1. Scope line: what was tested.
  2. Dates: planned vs actual.
  3. Result ticks: date match? spec/visit pass?
  4. Next step: continue Y/N, with a line to confirm.

Why one page? Because people actually read one page. They forward one page. They approve one page.

 

What to Price (And What Not To)

Price the test small and fixed. The point isn’t to squeeze every Naira from a pilot. The point is to earn the next three months. Make approval easy now so bigger work follows.

 

What if Something Goes Wrong?

Say it fast, fix it faster. The pilot is a safe box — that’s the beauty.

If a piece slips, your result page will show it and your note will explain how you’ve corrected the path.

Buyers don’t need perfection. They need honesty and control.
